Type 3 Window scrapers/surrounds...
Anyone know where to get newbies?
The '70 square project I've bought has been resprayed, and they took them out. I have 1 replacement, but it seems too small, probably an earlier
Type 3, so I need 2 newies.
My Mechanic got us a new set for my wife's Notch, but they were about $300.
Your brainvomits on the subject would be most appreciated so that I can waterproof these bloody doors!!!
Muchos Gracias!
Martin.

WTD Type 3 ('70 SQUARE) window scrapers and surrounds
Anyone know where to get a good set? Or do I have to look in South America?
P.S. Apparently the bug sets can be cut down but end up being a mess???
As usual, your brain contents are highly regarded and appreciated.
P.P.S. I bought the project without any (after a respray at some stage).

A VW mechanic in Qld (years ago, can't remember who) once old me he modified Kombi scrapers to suit type 3s. Apparently a lot cheaper than trying to
get type 3 specific scrapers which as you know cost mega-bucks.

Do a search in this section from memory. I modified mine for a about $20 a side and a couple hours work. They work really well. My post has pics etc.

Eeerrrkk,
really can't remember, sorry.
They open again tomorrow so give them a call and see what they say. They may not have any left as I thought it was odd that they had any in the first
place.

Bugger OK now I see your dilema. Did you see that post where someone bought them ffrom ISPWest from states, says they seem OK. I would be very
suprised if you could not get the alloy suurounds from someone on here. They just get chucked out with so many of the doors that are completely
cactus.

I've got the left scraper from a pair I bought for over $300 a few years ago. Only needed the right one and it was a perfect fit. Claimed to be the
genuine item but there's no VW stamping. Mine was a 68 (early shape), so I don't know if there are any differences in the scrapers from early to
late models but pm me if you think it might suit you.
Cheers
Brad

Windows the same as Dave says but bailey channell is a smaller section on early body. I think the early one used the Bug channel whereas the 70????
on used a slightly wider groove in the quarter window hence a wider bailey channel. I know I had dramas with this from a supplier in Melbourne who
insisted they were all the same untill I sent them a piece of the early extrusion from the quarter window. Hope that helps.
