indictor arm broken
hows it going... haven't really looked at the problem yet but i thought someone might have had this problem before and might have some advice to
share with a newish VW owner (+ mechanically illiterate)....
.. basically.. and as the title says...the indicator arm just when loose on Sat afternoon... i can use it to trun right but not left... and the arm
just hangs there... it seems firm enough interms of pushing it in and out.. its just moving it in the direction its supposed to go that sucks...
..anyways... will have to take the steering wheel (if so.. how to if possible..).. or maybe just a catch on the otherside of the steering column or
something...
..thanks in advance to anyone that has some tips...

If it's a Beetle, and an early, say 60ish model, then there's a Phillips head screw on top of the indicator switch housing, that needs
tightening, in the correct position.
If it's not this type, someone else may have to help.
It may be best if you tell us what type of VW you have.

To take the steering wheel off you "unclip" the horn pad. Sort of get your fingers under and pull - but dont "reef it"
Once that is off there is a 25mm nut in there that holds the steering wheel on. Take that off. If you dont have a socket set that will do it you may
be able to use a tyre brace - they some times fit.
Then you will see the indicator mechanism. I am betting you will see something broken at this stage - you may be lucky and there is a spring wire
thingy - that may have popped off or something
Anyway if it is broken there are 4 screws in the corners (of a circle?) undo these and unclip the plugs at the bottom and change it for another from a
wrecker or somewhere
