Surprised a few at OzMazda.com Track Day - With video.

Thanks to a project at work I was invited down to Wakefield Park on Saturday to participate in a Supersprint held by OzMazda.com.au. It was attended
by their internet forum and a few other Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) enthusiast forums. Entrants brought cars from Sydney and Melbourne.
The fastest cars were some very trick Nissan 200SXs doing 1:07 and 1:08. Then there were 3 Evo9s in the 1:08 and 109s. Then there was a mix of 200SX,
350Z, Evos, a S2000, VW beetle, Skyline, more 350z, MX5s, MX6s, etc.
I ended up 21st with a PB of 1:14.6 out of 53 modern cars. It was also one of the best track days I've been to. It was exceptionally well run. The
cars were well presented and modified and the people were very friendly.
I overcame the oil breather issues from Eastern Creek and the last Wakefield Park sprint. They were caused by the new aluminium oil filler not having
enough crankcase breathing. The stock filler had breathing from the half inch breather tube, and from the road tube. Without the road tube, the drain
that goes from the filler and down near the dip stick, the aftermarket piece has half the breathing. The solution was to tap an extra fitting in the
breather box and connect it to another fitting tapped into the alternator stand.
The Yokohama ADVAN A050s R-spec tyres didn't get super hot, being winter at Wakefield park, but they are grippy right from the first lap and make the
car really easy to drive. I love them.
Also check out the new 2.5 inch muffler welded up by Beau at Westside Mufflers Padstow and coated by hi Octane Coatings Rydalmere. My old exhaust was
an embarassment. I couldn't use any off-the shelf mufflers due to lack of ground clearance. So The new one is tucked up nicely and mounts to a great
looking bracket which bolts to the bumper brackets. The beetle was apparently the best sounding car at the track day. I think the exhaust has also
helped the mid range. I had to pull 4th up the hill and down it. I'm not sure it was faster though.

That's pretty quick, nice going! Is that the fan belt (or what's left of it) near the car?

Yep. That's the fan belt.
Not guilty. I threw Paul the keys to suggest he should not have sold his beetle for an Evo.
I got out of his car, with fan belts in tact, saying "Bugger Beetles, I want an Evo".
He got out of my car saying "Bugger Evos, I want my beetle back, oh and sorry about the fan belt".
I put the power pulley on after that which worked fine.
I've never destoryed a fanbelt before. That's a Bosch one that's only about 3 weeks old.

If you had a standard crank pulley on when the belt came off, I bet it had a BIG rev! No matter how good the belt is, that will do it.

Fan belts will usually get "thrown" (regardless of quality) if you rev past about 7000rpm with a standard pulley, or if your engine suffers from
detonation.
Any pis of pauls evo ?

yes my fault, I did trip the rev limiter in 3 rd on the main straight........wasnt looking at the tacho, I was waiting for it to stop pulling before
changing to 4th. Sorry CT, I owe you a fan belt. Didnt really help my cause I managed a 1.19 in CT's car.........shame on me.
Also worth noting that CT gave the Evo a good wriggle, 1.12's in his first stint with S drive street tyres(I only managed a meezly 1.14 in my first
stint!!)
Then tried the new Yokohama Neova's which are a cross between a street tyre and R spec. Awesome tyre and probably ideal for any car that shares
street/ track duties............heaps cheaper than a second set of rims and R spec tyres and probably some where in the middle of a street tyre and R
spec as far as times go.

The ADVAN A050 S compounds in the 195/50R15 size I use are listed at $319. But call a Yokohama motorsport distributor and ask about other sizes and
prices for the most accurate answer. You may get the cheaper competitor price.
