Hand brake cables??
Hey gents just sorting out my CB rear end, and I've got two snapped handbrake cables. Are these available anywhere? Or do I have to get some
made??
Thanks in advance,
Rhett.

Any of the shops should have them. Just let them know the year of your car.

Thanks guys, but rather than risking asking those that might know, I'd rather hear it from the experts.

rhett, You cant buy them off the shelf but there is a crowd in MELB.Craig Torrens organised them so I am sure he will recall the manufacturer.
Good to hear the CB is moving along.

hey guys
the place in melb is called flexible drive agencies. not sure if they are based only in melb. i used to work at autobarn and they did all our custom
cables and i was quoted 130 per side which seemed a little rich so i gave my last good one to a retailer so he could give me a matching one and that
was 2 years ago.
does anyone have pics of the differences between the CB cable and a standard beetle etc? is there a way that i can modify the cable or brake housing
to accept a standard cable?
cheers all
Edwin

Hi Phat Bug
Your question got me out looking at the cables I have. Here’s what one of my CB cables looks like compared to a beetle one. The info may be helpful
to someone.
Total cable length – CB is 1750mm Beetle is 1810mm
Brake & lever cable ends are the same.
Mine has no spring but they can’t work like that so I must have removed it when I was looking at using a beetle one many years ago.
Outer flexible material is the same but the CB is 30mm longer.
Body end of the flex section is almost the same, 10mm Dia.
Wheel end is different, CB has a thing like the other end only lager, 13mm Dia.
Beetle is the curved thing, 14mm Dia.
I emailed Joe at Auto Cables in Melbourne. He assures me he can make one to a sample. http://www.autocables.com.au/
Cheers
Tony

While not CB related, I'm going through the hand brake cable thing at the present with my buggy, thought I had it sorted with new cables (for a
beetle I think ) measured them against the old cable
to get the new length but didn't notice that the outer sheath on the new cable was about 120mm shorter than the older one (it was still in the car as
I simply pulled the broken cable through the tube ), too late as I had already had new ends (the hand brake lever end) crimped on by a marine cable
fella. Today I got two more cables from my friendly VW mechanic at Belmont, took him a while to sort out which cable I needed as he now reckons they
are for a type 3, beats me. Anyway I have been taking a good hard look at these cables and I reckon if I make up a couple of ends for the drum end, or
cut off the old ends and drill the old bit of cable out, use some nice stainless cable (left over from my patio hand rails) and used the original
outers then got the marine bloke to fit new ends at the lever end and crimp the other end on while he was at it, then I could come up with a realy
nice handbrake setup. Anyone here tried doing this
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!
