eng timing static or strobe


i have got a 2180 type 1 vw engine and was wondering what to set my timing at.also i was wondering to use a strobe light or to have the engine off and do a static timing.

use a strobe light to set it at no more than 30deg total advance
if it has a 009 set it static to 7.5 deg then rev the engine to see the total and adjust as needed to obtain no more than 30deg with that engine combo
not all dizzys are the same thats why you need to check the total advance
