Windcsreen seal in Type 3
I,m replacing the windscreen seal in my 1971 Type 3. That not the problem but the glass?. Glass is
"Armourfloat Safety Glass" . I,m a bit confused, is that the one that is illegal? cracks easily? Anyone sourced a Type 3 windscreen lately. If I
cant get new one I,ll have to live with the original.
Thanks
John

yes u can still buy new screen for Type 3s
The safety glass is Legal to use it breaks into very small pieces thats why its called Armourfloat Safety Glass
new screen will be Laminated and these crack very easy if not installed correctly and know what yr doing
I would fit a new seal if yr doing replacing the glass as it wont seal correctly and will leak water when raining

Just make sure the glass is the same size , I just had a new screen fitted and it's all wrong . To small all over , the bend in middle is flat and
all this means crap looking , rubber not sealing agaist body , kerling in around edge.
So may be putting stock one back in if we can't find correct windscreen .

Dam thats scary knowing that normal procedure in the vw manual says it required a little force. The old tempered glass is ftw! hammer proof imo

You cannot buy new "toughened" glass windscreens and I think it is illegal for an auto glazier to even fit a non-laminated windscreen these days.
Windscreens O'brien sell new type 3 windscreens. Laminated glass. Hell of a lot safer IMHO.

I found ISP west sell the original seals to accept the chrome molds.
They also have the molding if you need them as well.
Screw Australia for type 3 parts. US has got every thing needed to restore one.

I just ordered a set from there.
The replacement strip is a Mylar.
Sooo much cheaper to get from the US even if you have to pay for shipping
