Do I need to narrow my beam for BRMS?

I'm looking at getting a set of BRMs or Empi 5 spokes for the 66 bug. It'll have discs on the front soon.

It has stock wheels on it at the moment and I don't know if their extra width will make them stick out from under the guards.

Cheers

It will depend on a number of factors

1. Are you installing drop spindles
2. Wheel width
3. Tyre width and profile

I had my bug dropped by 2 and a half inches using drop spindles, I have installed 5 and half inch empi 8's with 185 x 60 profile tyres on the front and 195 x 65 on the rear. they sit under the guards ok however they do rub on full lock.

I changed the front shocks to gas shocks and that has improved the problem. I suggest once you have the discs on buy the rims and take them to a tyre place and experiment with tyres.

You could always fit the brakes then work out the offset to suit, if you fit dropped spindles you would have to allow about 20MM extra a side in width, the wide 5 disc's do not add any width as i understand it, finaly buy a set of wheel that fits the car without rubbing
