Remote Oil cooler and filter kit ??
Hi
I did a search but can't find the detail im after.
I am chasing a remote oil cooler and filter set up like this
http://www.jcwhitney.com/bolt-on-oil-cooler-with-fan-kit/p2012989.jcwx?filter...
Is there an Austrailian kit for the beetle motor (in an offroader)?
Have people used them before and are there any issues I need to be aware off in their use?
Cheers

A big, technical subject here....
There are a few diferent ways of fitting a cooler and even when going full flow there are a different ways of doing it. Some dodgy, some not so.
Where are you located and how much mechanical experience have you?
If you have the gear, I recommend the delux package, modified oil pump, full flow pump cover, drilled and tapped main oil gallery, filter, cooler and
thermostat control device, even a fan that is thermostatically controlled is nice if you have a very 'hot' motor. All this needs fitting correctly,
some of which is risky without engine disassembly.

I find that style of cooler excellent, if you cannot mount it in the airflow the fan is the next best thing.

Wow, that is some oil cooler kit...
with the thermostatically controlled fan switch it would be great...
but don't think this would fit in a normal beetle...
in a buggy YES...

Ooh they fit Lee, in a few places, I find them ok, esp because of the fan option. I've also used Mesa, Jaguar, Mercedes and Mazda RX7. They all have
thier place.

Hi
with the semi auto beetle and the ATF tank and hoses to the torque converter
and the vacuum tank and long clutch arm and the clutch servo and vacuum hoses etc there isn't much room for anything under My beetle...
If I was traveling on city roads maybe I'd sit it under the gearbox
but the thought of a stone damaging it and losing oil pressure..
isn't a good one...

I have been checking out the EMPI catalogue. WOW what a lot of options and kits.
I think a full flow filter pump and a oil cooler bypass to a thermo fanned remote cooler is the go.
http://www.empius.com/2010_catalog/empi2010_pg35.html
Or a simple kit and leave he oil pump as is
http://www.empius.com/2010_catalog/empi2010_pg39.html but i would want to remove the dog house cooler to increase air tot
eh pistons on that side.
Johnny Rotton, would you care to expand on your comment, what issues?
Whos used what?

Mid America Motorworks have this one as well:

or this one with a fan
http://www.mamotorworkstv.com/vw/product/319935/
Can't vouch for quality though, but thought I'd throw them out there.

a by pass adapter setup is best for an oil cooler.

there was no inference to the previous post, it is not a bypass adaptor but a full flow adaptor that replaces the plug in your pressure relief valve
