New from South Australia
Hi Guys,
My name is 'Jiffy' (real name is Shawn) and I've been lingering around here for a while, deciding whether or not to buy a beetle. Finally after
several long months, I have decided to do so.
Today I picked up my '70 beetle.... and so far I love it.
It's modifications include
Exterior:
Dechromed and modified body.
Shaved indicators and added to bumpers
Respray inside and out.
Empi-style rims... I'm told are Porsche, yet to be verified.
Engine:
Heavy Duty Crankcase , shuffle pinned and clearance to take 74 mm
offset ground crank,
90.5 mm forged pistons,
All Ballenced with 12lb flywheel,
Hemi rods,
Scat C25 camshaft,
Chrome molybdenum pushrods,
Heavy duty oil pump,
40mm inlets, 35.5 mm exhausts stainless steel valves tripple cut into seats,
Heads ported and mild polished,
45 Delorto Carboretta
Braided fuel lines
Empi S&S Extractors
Suspension:
Torsion bar adjuster fitted to raise and lower suspension,
Sach sport shockers,
KYB rear heavy duty shockers,
Heavy-duty front sway bar,
Camber compensator on rear end.
Brakes: Subaru front and rear disks.
Interior:
Imported seats (USA) including full race buckets
Full cluster of VDO gauges
New carpets and headliner
CD player
The car drives great albiet a little louder than I'd hoped. My only other real complaint is I thought my kids stroller would fit in the boot and it
doesn't, so I'm going to have to re-think that one.
Future mods include adding seatbelts and child-restraints to the rear. Then, air conditioning. That's the biggie. There's a few little things to do
in the meantime, like add central locking, an alarm and upgrading the stereo.
Here's the pics. I haven't taken any of my own as yet, but I will do.

Welcome Jiffy! Nice bug. I had a '70 as my first bug and have always loved 1500s since.
With regards to the stroller, have you tried putting it behind the back seat? That's where I always put all my luggage, the front luggage area is too
shallow to take any useful items.

Thanks Waveman.
Nah, I can't unfortunately. It has a parcel shelf there with a little hatch to put stuff in. I'll be removing that once I get the seatbelts put in
and know where I can put rear speaker pods.
For the time being, it does fit between the front and rear seats on the floor.... just.

Very cool, Think that won several awards in DOVW shows. Nice pick up. The wheels are EMPI '8's. You've caught the bug now!
I am sick of ABS, SRS, AFM, SIDI, ECU, PIM, BCM, Electronic sensors & actuators, scan tools, fault codes, programing, flashing, syncing, Drive by
wire, traction & stability control, AARRHHH!!! Just give me
Air cooled, VW's.. Simple.

Thanks Craig. Yeah, won best modified post 68 a few times I believe. He did give me a couple of the trophies with the car, but kept a couple also.
