Chrome Moulds 72 Superbug?

My bug has had the holes where the moulds go filled in along both sides. My mechanic said some models have the clips coming from along the inside of the car and if they've been taken off it could be a big job to get them back in. He also said there are other models that the clips fit in from the outside... Does anyone know which one applies to my beetle or if this info is correct?
Thanks :)

from what ive seen all press in from the outside with a center pin in the middle flaring them out, good luck finding some though since replacements are supposedly useless & the originals dont come out easily - proven by my own, wvery 2 or 3 they just crumbled.

I replaced mine about 4 years ago, and they all worked pretty well. I got them from Wolfsburg Automotive I think.

they are outside type plastic clips..
You can get them from Wolfsburg automotive in Victoria..
all their Gear [parts] are top quality...

the strips are either stainless steel [never rust] or polished aluminium alloy [never rust] not chromed..

LEE

all My strips are off and the holes brazed up...
I would like to fit them again one day.. but drilling holes in My beetle... it was bad enough drilling the NOS engine lid for My number plate... YIKES...

Yes
Best not to look... :lol::lol:

I May get My Son to do it..
He is a spray painter ..

You can nominate where You want the strips put...
up high or below the waistline...
and use either early WIDE stainless strips or late model aluminium or stainless steel strips...
My 68 had narrow aluminium strips but I have a full set of narrow stainless strips off a SuperBug.. too..

cheers

LEE

You can get the universal stick on chrome strip, one of my bugs had the holes welded up in a past life and then stick on stuff fitted but it is alot thicker than the 68 on stuff, same thickness as the pre 67 stuff.

It must have been around 72 they swapped from stainless steel to aluminum strips.

The couple of 71 and 72s I've had were stainless but everything after was aluminum which is crap, they bend and squash plus weather badly.
