8 volt battery

Haven't seen it mentioned here, a simple mod with great results for 6 volt systems. Years ago a auto elec mate of mine suggested I put an 8 volt battery in my split window Kombi,
better lights, better spark and no bulbs need to be changed.

Worked well with no dramas. Maybe you can't get 8 volt batteries anymore, anyone else tried this?

One of my cars has been on 8 volt since 1971. You can still get these batteries through specialised battery outlets. There are several brands / sizes available nowadays, but some of the American versions I find are a bit big (too tall) for the VW applications - too close to the seat springs. The Korean casings are lower - I prefer these personally.

a fellow in Newcastle made 8 volt batteries back in the 60s...

haven't heard of them since...

the extra 2 volts make ALL the difference.... lol

I saw a vintage car [USA] on a TV show and You could see the battery hanging down low..

some early USA cars had very long, narrow, high 6 volt batteries
alongside the engine..

My brother recently had a KG in the workshop for restoration. It was fitted with an 8 volt battery... but the interesting thing was that it was also fitted with an 8 volt generator.

The generator looked just like a 6 volt unit but was slightly larger in diameter and it clearly had BOSCH and 8 Volt stamped in the case. First time any of us had seen one of these... but I will be looking more carefully at what appear to be 6 volt generators at swaps in the future :D

You can cut out two cells from a 6 cell 12 v battery glue then you have an 8 volt.
Easy mod and you can get batteries with one dead cell for free . Mitchell
