EZ 30 opportunity

Hi All

I have the opportunity of getting hold of an ez30 from a 200 legacy outback to go into my T25. it is automatic and I would keep it that way.

Is there any obvious pitfalls with this type of motor versus the other option of a non turbo ej25 from 2003 -06 forrester.

how to convert from Kw to HP, sorry but i am old fashioned.

thanks, any advice gratefully received.

Mark.

edit added: can someone tell me the respective weights of the two engines and if the ez30 would upset things in the T25 because of its extra weight.

Thanks

kw is 75% of hp. e.g. 75kw = 100hp

I am assuming the Subaru is auto as there is no auto Syncros.
Are you going with a bellhousing or an adapter plate conversion? As this will determine which clutch you can use.If you go BH,then you can use either VW/Suby Hybrid clutch(vw228mm clutch plate,Subaru pressure plate and flywheel)or change the input shaft and run a full Subaru clutch.Either of these options utilise the Sbaru hi torque starter as well. The latter is recomended for 6cyls and turbo.
If you go adaptor plate you will use the VW flywheel and clutch. The disadvantage here is the VW flywheel is lighter so the low rev torque is not as good.(think off road)you will also use the VW starter which will have trouble turning the Suby over and you will have ring gear probs.
Have fun

He never said that it was a Syncro though, did he? Only that it was a T25?

Sorry. neglected to mention that is is 2wd, not syncro. can't afford one of them, much as i would love it.

i am hoping to keep the auto trans and get the guys at subigears to reverse it. if not then probably the bell housing, but I dont like the VW 3 speed auto. if necessary i would go to a manual subi box as i prefer 5 or 6 speed to 3 speed auto.

Most people I speak to in Australia refer their watercooled Kombi 2wd as T3.
In England and Oz Syncros are refered to as T25 or Syncro.
In the states T3 are refered as Vanagon and the 4wd just Syncro.
Awsome in any platform.
