anyone taken their bug over the vic roads pits lately?
hi guys,
ive been chipping away at the ol '66 to get her registered, ive got a tight engine with no leaks and a new pipe on her, just a couple of minor things
to do before i book it in with Vic roads.
problem is i recall the mechanic at Wolfsburg saying that it will fail a road worthy with Stainless Steel j pipes on it.
has anyone taken their bug over the pits with SS j pipes before and had any trouble?
its also got some massive fats on it at the rear with spacers between the rims and the drum brakes to stop the tyres rubbing on the inner body wheel
arches. this was modded way back in the mid 70's so im not sure if it will affect a vic roads inspection either.
anyone had probs with these things before?

can't help you out re Vic Roads, but in NSW separate wheel spacers are illegal.

Your first step is getting a Roadworthy Certificate. If there are any issues that fail the VicRoads inspection, they may be on him, so I am sure he
will be very diligent in checking it beforehand.
Does the car need an engineers report done? That will sort out any issues. All of the vehicles I have taken to get registered with engineers reports
have gone straight through VicRoads, as they know all of the responsibility is on the engineer.
The only time I had trouble was a 64 Holden, and they demanded it have a compliance plate with build date attached, or I could not change the engine
number. I had to go two supervising levels up until they could hear me saying that the car is too old for a compliance plate.

I would hate to go over the pits... lol
any pits....
unless the operator knows about OLD cars...
I believe spacers are illegal in all states...

the last bug i took to vicroads in order to get it registered all they were interested in was a current roadworthy certificate.
The woman went out to the car and looked at the engine number and chassis number and checked that they matched what i had on the paperwork.
Then they issued the registration for the car. It took all of 10 minutes... they did not ask to see anything working etc or hear the engine running.

thanks for your replies,
im hoping to get it there this coming week, it has an EMPI tuck away pipe, no pee shooters.
i cant wait to get it out on the open road, the car port is not big enough to change gears in!

From my experiences getting an unregistered car back on the road requires a RWC then an appointment booked at VICROADS and all they do is check engine
and VIN as blutopless2 said above. I heard that the pits no longer exist as OH&S issue & rule of thumb should be don't give them anything to
hassle you about or have looking clearly non RWC when you take it in, maybe borrow a set of stock wheels for the day!
