trucks

I know this subject has come up before but I just had to have my little dig at the pig headed truck drivers on the newel.
Im the calmest person in the world usually, but I experianced my first case of road rage the other day in between Parkes and Forbes and it took hours to recover from. I was kruizin along at 105 kms and a certain driver come along and sat on my ass for less than a minute with no oppurtunity to pass, how impatient was he, less than 100 meters away was a passing lane but no he had to make a big deal about it blowing air horns making rude gestures then gave me a hard time which i thought would stop once he passed but no he passed and kept it up slowing down in my path teasing me with his brake lights and indicators all the way to the next town where he pulled over at a roadhouse. In my head i had my little speech ready for him and i was ready to go him big time, but i chickened out cause i had the kids in the car.
I dont give a rats ass if they are under pressure, spend a few minutes less talking truck shit at the next truck stop if u wanna make good timing. they are the biggest hipacritical bastards, how often do they slow everyone else down when we drive other vehicles or motorbikes.
I have one more thing to say if your listerning Mr truck driver reg # 24372 S
You may drive a big fat truck but I drive a VOLKSWAGEN

<sighs> I feel a heap better now

Unfortunately you have come accross one of the few, not all truckies are the same and most don't have any time for cowboys like you came accross, rest assured his time will come when he picks on the wrong person, and he will get his come uppance!
Our family have been truck drivers for generations and I have been around them all my life, most are decent hard working men, who would not contemplate or condone this type of behaviour. unfortunately there are bad apples in every barrel! and that scumbag is one of them.

kombi karma, I know what you mean about some truck drivers... they dont wait for nothing!

I had the most scary experience of my life last year on the newell h'way.
myself, my sister and my man went on a road trip to see the solar eclipse (and have 3 days dancing in the desert as well!!) and took the newell h'way at a part of our trip.
I was coming up to the top of a crest on the highway with double white lines, so no overtaking, and just as i was getting over this hill(and could finally see what was in the oncoming lane) the semi driver decides to overtake the little delivery van on the incoming lane(who gives a stuff about double white lines!!) on the uphill... i swerve as far over as i could without going over the edge, and the semi misses us by about 15cms.
We were all thankful that volvos have fantastic brakes, because if they didnt we would have been a very sorry sight.
would have gotten the plate numbers if we werent so busy almost shitting ourselves!

Though robo is right, most truckies are very kind and courteous drivers and will gladly pull over a bit to let you pass them. I guess its just like any job, you get bad ones!

I would have to lay a lot of the blame for the behaviour of these morons on the fact that this countrys national road network is a complete joke! it has only been in the last 15 years or so that we have had a fully sealed highway 1. the eastwest road (Eyre Hwy), when it reached the Nullarbour, after Ceduna has only been sealed for it's entire length in the last couple of decades, and the same goes for the stuart highway, I can remember traveling the main roads in the sixties and seventys out of sydney to Brisbane, Melbourne, and west over the blue mountains, on roads that were one and a half lanes wide at best, with one lane bridge's, if a truck came the other way you had to partialy leave the bitumen to pass safely! or wait until the other vehical's left the bridge! the Bruce highway north of Eumundi is still no better than a goat track, with limited passing lanes of less than a kilometer in length, if you get stuck behind a caravan doing 80 Kmh, in a Kombi it takes for ever to pass, in the short distance provided, and sometimes you just cant do it, you end up having to stay behind for the next 30 or 40 kays, even though the Kombi is capable of travelling at 100kmh, this breeds frustration, and anger! the trucks we have today are capable of much higher speeds than the ones from 10 years ago, 600Hp is not uncommon but the roads are not good enough to cater for this increase in power
If you have a look at the freeway networks OS you have to wonder why ours is so antiquated by modern standards, the US and Europe, had super highways in the late thirtys and fortys, paid for with capital works programs.
For the amount of money (fuel tax) we have paid, remember the 3x3 fuel tax that went up to 4x4! that was a decade ago and we have been paying it ever since it's still there! we should have the best road network in the developed world! not the country goat tracks we have now! its about time the governments got serious and instead of all these TV ads and road safety campains, do what needs to be done and solve the real problem, spend the road & fuel tax money, on the ROADS "fix our dismal road network" then I am absolutely positive fatalitys would decrease remarkably, and there would be less road rage from frustrated user's.

Thats too scary star buggy ....Dont they know the road is owned by all not just them, I wonder if they know that if you drive 10 kms over the speed limit that you only arrive in the next town 2 minutes sooner. Doh! all I could think of is a horror movie I saw not so long ago called road kill (part of the reason I backed out of saying my say) this bloke was agro enough to make that movie for real.

My love too all truck drivers..... cept that #24372 S (she says under her breathe)

I had a few tense moments with trucks on the Pacific HyWay coming home. When Amazers Kombi started to die, I was bringing up rear of our group. As we were really going slow the trucks were sitting right on my bumper , and I mean RIGHT ON MY BUMper. Lights blazing (it was after 4 before we got going) all I could see out the oval back window was truck grill and inside the car it was like daylight.
How the hell the drivers expected to see my brake lights at that close proximity I have no idea. Given the fact they are only a foot off the ground. The driver would have been lucky to see me at all. Made me feel really pleased to see a passing lane thats for sure.

I found the highways I took very generous with passing lanes, probably being really hilly, but still not enough for the amount of impatient trucks.
Cant stand ppl sitting right on me ass at night, first thing I do is twist all my mirrors in other directions so I dont get the annoying light.

Hey Starbuggy, I was at Lyndhurst for the Eclipse Festival too! That was one of the best events of my life. I went in my kombi, of course

The last time I had a truck following me I was going from Oberon to Bathurst. The truckie hung back a fair distance behind me, but I could tell he wanted to pass. As the next overtaking lane was short, I slowed down to give him plenty of chance to get past, and flashed my headlights once the back of his truck was past my bullbar (it's a truckie signal I learned in England, I don't know if it's common here). He moved left and gave me the "thankyou" with his indicators: left-right-left. Following him the rest of the way to Bathurst, I could see that he was driving really well, and making sure that he was giving plenty of room to oncoming cars. If only all truckies were like that one, they'd be so well respected.

Hi Mr Martin
Yes the signal is the same here, just give a flash of your lights when they have cleared you, and they know it's safe to pull in.
Glad to see someone has come across a good one!
