Hi
I use Nulon SAE 80, you will need about 2.5 litres.
The drain plug is the centre of the diff, you will need a 17 mm Allen key to undo the plug.
Filling is pain unless you have a hand pump or you get small pumps that attach to a power drill.
I've used a long piece of 1/2 hose with a funnel or an old squeeze bottle.
When filling the transmission have the car level and fill it until the oil just runs out of the fill plug. You also need to fill the casing
completely, so leave it a few minutes and check again when you think its full.

always undo the filler plug first
as otherwise You may end up with no oil in the gearbox if it cannot be undone..
80 or 90 HYPOID Gear Oil...
it Must be hypoid gear oil for the differential..
keep filling until it over flows.. slowly as Steve says as the oil has to flow into the differential etc..
cheers

Thanks for that guys. My gearbox is out of the car (as the car is in a body off resto at the moment) and ready to go back in so filling it up should
be easier for me. Thanks for your help guys !

The 1200 bugs have 2 drain plugs, one under the gearbox and another under the diff, but fills through the same fill point.

A workshop manual is a good investment.
