oil light flicks on and off on rebuilt engine


need help just done a rebuild on an engine and the oil light goes on and off while idling but when the engine gets to around 2000 rpm it goes out and stays out ........ i have got a full flow system with only filter no external cooler at moment with h/d oil pump has anybody got any ideas what it could be .............. ive put compressed air into the galleries via oil pump line, oil cooler std position all seems free im running 20w 50 as well any help would be great

Try another switch they are not always accurate.

wish there was one on the shelf up here is there anything else i should look at so if i need to get other parts it will work out cheaper its better to get them in bulk as there is no one up here with vw spare parts and freight is a bitch

Full flow system... when you rebuilt it, did you put a plug in the oil gallery where oil normally runs from the pump into the case ???

Have heard around that if that gallery is left unblocked, oil can run through it into the sump instead of going around the engine like it's supposed to... basically losing pressure.

One of the engine builder types will hopefully comment.

i put a plug in the pump but not the case should i have done both ..................

Far as I know you plug the case as well as the pump.

This is just from what I've read round the place tho - I'm not an engine builder, so am far from an expert !!!

why the case and the oil pump does it leek pass the side of the pump

the light stays on for a few seconds then goes out for a min then back on for a few seconds
