 Is is a bit sad
Everyone to their own thing. The thing that's tragic, is someone had to do that deliberately and on purpose. 'They' used to say that the Karmann
Ghia was the poormans Porsche, but now I've seen it all.

What would you call it... a Beetorsche. Or a Porscheetle.

I think that is a Porraga which was a popular conversion kit in Australia in the early ninety's. It's convertible conterpart was called the Porrera.
Not sure if I have the names the right way around though.

Someone else wiull no doubt confirm this.

I nearly crashed the car when I drove past... It was in Brisbane. The scary thing is that it was actually really wel done. All that effort to
build.....

I remember back in the 80's there was an ultimate version of these body kitted bugs that lived at a vw/merc wreckers in melbourne. It was black with
gold 10inch wide simmons wheels and some lamborghini sized pirelli p7 tyres. Let me say as a skinny vw mad teenager I thought this beast was as good
as it gets. I wonder what ever happened to that car, it won a shitload of trophys and was on display at the business where we used to buy parts.
Anyone old enough to remember that car? I think it was turboed as well.....way ahead of its time

love them or hate them they are part of vw folklore in Australia.

The black one grinderman refers to was owned by a guy named David Pryor (?) who has been living on the NSW north coast for a while now and I believe
his grandson now drives the car. I think he had it at Nambucca in 2010. it's been completely restored by David and his grandson so great project
and good to see Dave passing the passion on thru the generations.

For those that want one, the moulds are still around and owned by a mate of mine in Redcliffe. I think he recently sold some panels to a guy on the
forum who was chasing panels. let me know if any interest and I'll pass on the details.

I thought that sounded like it, and yes it's still getting around here, I've seen it out and about a few times.

The grandson did put a few pics of it on here somewhere a while back but as is typical people voiced their beauty is in the eye of the beholder point
of view.

It's not actually a Poraga or Porerra that one, it's another kit again based on the slant nose 930 kit from memory.

Cars were stupidly priced in the 80's

A mate of mine paid almost $70k for a Rover 825 in the late 80's

It made sense in those days to do a mock up of a Porsche
A 1985 911 was almost $100k on the road with options

A Porrera was the best looking one I reckon - as long as you filed the guards porperly

That is one of the better looking ones IMHO..

 looks great...

the one Joel had picced looked a bit strange from the front side angle..

but that white one looked good IMHO.. of course..

Now compared to a beetle with those Torana tail lamps..
 well.. someone loved them...

A lot of work went into them...

 Lee,

No need to pick on Zelda like that!
But no, I agree completely, the Torana LH lights on a Beetle is absolutely disgusting.

But, someone made money from it.

 Man I love those kits.

I am going to stir you guys..... they look heaps better than a standard bug for sure, 100% without a doubt.

I remeber seeing them when I was a young teen and thinking " I would only want a beetle if it was a porrera"

Porsche have always been my favorite
  especially the 930

In the 80's all manner of stuff was cool. I had a 76 with Carrera kit equipped with torana tail lights. In it's day it was cool. If I didn't write
it off, who knows, I still might have it.

The funny part is I inherited it from my mum. I now have a 76 that came with a bodykit which was sold off and my poor mum is so confused.

It was like everyone cal looking early beetles in the 80s and 90s ripping off the flash trim, now they are being added to every rat beetle on the
planet for stupid $$.

Give it a few years the fad will change again and they'll be bitching about the holes they've drilled in the sides fitting them
