help with bay kombi steering boxes
Hey All, I have some play in the bushes in my steering box. My spare had a ding in the nose where an enthusiastic punter has bashed the shit out of
it hoping to get the pitman arm off. (how do you get those off, Ive broken a few pullers on this one...)

I tried to peen the ding out and it broke off into two pieces at the first hit :cry:cry
Damn crystalisation. Plan B was to Dremel the dent back into a rounded shape to fit the seal. Probably a better choice with hindsight. I dont have
access to a milling machine at the moment or it would have been the best fix with a cutter.
Was only a little sounding tap too. It may have already been micro cracked, I just knocked the piece out. Dremel may have vibro'd it out if
that was the case.
So plan now is to glue the piece back over the seal with a local equiv of JB weld. Fit a plug to the case with a grease nipple and pump it full of
lithium moly d grease.
That should keep it well lubed and not push the seal too hard. I cannot feel much play but its hard to find where the shaft will set itself.
I then play on getting the current box rebushed. Any one know of a machine shop in Brisbane that will do such a job? Any idea of cost? Maybe would
be better getting a new one but I have not seen one for ages. Cost ideas.
Im interested in others opinions and ideas. Want a nice tight steering box without spending lotsa $$$ but will spend it where requireds.
