Kadrons into 6volt bug, do they fit?

So after a weekend of stuffing around, my new engine is in. It's a 1600tp with twin kads and extractors.

It all fits nicely, except for the carbs and extractors. The exhaust is not much of a hassle as it's a simple matter of some slight grinding.

The carbs are what's bothering me. The air filter assembly on the right carb is hitting the body, but there is plenty of room on the other side.
Is this normal?
Is my engine off centre?
What can I do to fix it?
Can I get different air cleaners that fit?
Why do I keep asking so many questions?

Any help would be appreciated.

I dont have a lot of experience with kads but i was working on a set on the week end.

The air filter seems to have an offset cutout that bolts to the carb. Could it be that you just need to spin the air filter around a bit more??

Not sure, they both have a fitting to run the balance tube. This engine had the manifolds set up to run the tube behind the fan-shroud, I don't know if this is the typical set-up, I think if I turned them around the throttle linkage would be in the way. I'll try and get some photos up tonight.

your manifolds are fitted correctly, pipe to the back. The right carby airfilter assembly should have the oil breather pipe, is this the case with yours ?
If so , the assembly will really only fit one way, so the breather pipe from the "airfilter" faces to the back of the car.

Kadron's will fit early beetles including ovals, no probs !:thumb

await your photo !

Hi Pat, I assume you turned the filter housing around because the bolt is not in the centre

Thats the normal stagger you get because your cylinders cant be opposite each other.

The Oil breather inlet on the filter is facing towards the rear right of the car, with a bent aluminium pipe going to the oil breather opening. I'll have a play around with this tonight.
This engine was previously in a baja, so I assume the carbs are not set up with body clearance in mind.

I'll get some pics up this afternoon

I've seen a few Kadron set ups in early bugs and from memory they were notched out on the right side to allow clearance for the aircleaner. The pic that blue put up looks like the area has been bent slightly for clearance.
You might get away with a bit of creative bending too Pat. Otherwise the rattling will drive ya mad.

OK it's done, after some slight bending, the carbs now clear the body. Can't wait to get this thing going, should be a lot nicer to drive.
