Wheel Weight Guide (please add to it)
I've been looking at options for wheels on my bug and have been racking my head over which wheels are lightest for what PCD etc... and I found that
EMPI actually advertises their wheel weights. Seeing that these are cheap and popular wheel styles I thought i'd post them all into one place for
reference.
If you've got other wheels please add to the thread for the benefit of all of us. Also if someone can reference the stock wheel weights that would be
a great comparison along with porsche gasburners and the Vforce spyders.

This thread is a bit topical for me at the moment, because I'm considering different options for both brakes and also rims, so here comes.........

Anyway, I have to add something so here goes.
Aunger 5-slot "kidney" mags in 14" x 6" (4x130) weigh in at 5.1kg (11.2lbs).
Das light, das gut.
OEM VW Golf 2002up black 15" x 6" steelies (5x112) weigh in at 7.4kg (16.3lbs), which is actually not that bad.
Oh yeah, a few more weights here (which is why it's on the brain)..........

I used to HATE those old 5-slot mags, bloody ugly, but they are REALLY light for something you can get off Egay for $200 a set. That's why I got the
5x112 Golf steelies, strong but not too heavy, and $20ea. I can set up pretty much any bolt pattern I want, along with brakes from mild to stooooopid
if I wish, so it's the weight I'm looking at mainly.
I drive over really crap single-lane bitumen and a fair bit of corrugated gravel, so having really light unsprung weight will make a huge difference
to suspension performance and lifespan. If those butt-ugly 5-slots didn't stick 1.5" outside the guards I'd keep them, but sorry I draw the line at
flared guards!
Does anyone know of wheels that weigh about 5kg, don't cost $250ea, and have that '70s GTS/GTR Sprintmaster/Pacer look about them?
I'd actually prefer 14s if possible.

I was surprised to find that my crummy-looking old 4-stud Cheviot 6" x 14 mags (with 5 kidney-shaped slots) were considerably lighter than my (also
old) 14" x 6 Globe Bathursts . (Perhaps these are the same as the Aunger?) The Globes look better though!

My dear old Nanna's tooth glass would look better than those things! 
But yep, very light. With a 195/70R14 they are even lighter than the GSXR1000 17x6" rim and 190/50R17 I have on the "project" (lightest rim Suzuki
made).

Re the TechnoMagnesio Wheels:
The originals (30 years ago) were Magnesium and weighed 9lbs and for track only.
The current new production versions are Aluminium alloy and weigh 13lbs, are thicker and road registerable.

Some interesting comments there, Lance. I suppose you need to 'weigh up' [sorry  ] the difference between un-sprung weight and appearence, and which is more important?
I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Sort of like separating the curds from the 'wey', Greg.
From my experience, the Concourse thing has changed a lot of that...glitz and glamour commands more bucks than performance hardware.
The fat cats, pay a lot for some stand-out shiny bits and that makes them feel like heros.
The worst of the lot are also probably the most popular eye candy.
The Rudge wheels are extremely heavy (19lbs), plus another 10lbs per corner for steel hubs...sell for $10k per corner. Yes, they look great and are
historical and collectable....good for concourse points. But, they ruin the driving feel and performance of a nice driving car. The bloody things just
don't want to go around corners. I'm happy for someone else to pay for them. I can admire them on their cars but I wouldn't want them on mine.
