Yank needs Oz experience for Kombi H20 swap
I've been lurking ('larkin'?) under every shrub and website gleaning info on water cooled transplants for the late Kombi. I've got more time into
picking corn out of the cowpie and don't feel like I've got much to show for it. One lack I find is everyone seems to reinvent their cooling
solution every time. You'd think by now there would be a standard solution that would be easy to fab and work reliably.
I know that http://www.customveedub.com.au/ (Formerly Custom Off Road in QLD)
made a louvered box-in and custom radiator that Helbus used, but that they changed the design. About a year ago I found the picture of the modified
design but have since lost track of it, and I can't get Peter Walshe at Custome VeeDub to respond to inquiries.
Later in his build retrospective, Helbus mentioned that he had problems with the rad, and that CVD changed the design based on his feedback.
I've got this daft notion that it should be possible to do put a radiator box in 'no cut' without the need to fab the life out of things. The same
goes for an engine mount for an EJ22. Pretty much all of the adaption / conversion cleverness is in Oz or the UK. I've pounded pavement here in the
states to find anyone doing Transporters / Kombis; no luck. "Not a Vanagon? You're on your own, Jack."
Someone's got to have a standard method....right? I'm asking here because this site, plus vwkd seem to be the central clearing house for those who
are at least asking the right questions.
