L Bug with EJ20 turbo and Subarugears 5 speed - it fits under the decklid and guards
Latest customer install of a Subarugears 5 speed transmission. This L Bug runs and EJ220 turbo from a Liberty turbo and the matching TY752 4 bolt
liberty turbo transmission.
The install used the extended Subaflanges to place the CV joints outboard of the frame horns, with shortened axles. This allows the engine and
transmission to be lowered enough so the Quad engine cam belt covers fit under the rear guards and decklid.
This achieves the sleeper look that everyone is going for - retaining the beetles original body lines (with some cutouts of the inner guards from
underneath).

(these headers hang too low for my liking, standard exhaust or block hugger headers with single pipe would give much more ground clearance).

Gearbox clearance in pan :
A different way of doing the engine mount. Banana mount uses one rubber mount with a bolt going directly into the block's boss. Doesn't use
Subaru's rubber engine mount which uses two bosses on each side and places the mount further towards the rear of the car.
The extended Subaflange puts the CV joints outboard of the frame horns. Axle is made 100mm shorter. This one is cut and shut - my preference would be
to shorten and respline. Rear suspension is set about as low as it can go and there's no CV bind.
Maintains the beetle clutch cable. Uses a lever system to push the top of the Subaru clutch form towards the engine and therefore activate the turbo
pull clutch. Clutch weight on the leg is hardly any different to stock.

Thanks Mackay, nice job on the brightness level. That lever setup is a touch agricultural but good to get it going and with no flex. I can attest it
works well. Going to make a kit out of that so ppl don't need to go to hydraulic if they absolutely don't want to.

Yeah I think there would be room for VVT motor.
The motor can actually go down a bit lower, the subaflanges aren't all the way down.
This gearbox is coming out again - going to be fitted with an LSD, and then the wick gets turned up.

Thanks for putting this up Todd, it's answered a couple of my questions.
Your gearbox is on my to do list but I've been holding off chewing it over as with the the normal flanges lifting the engine up 2" to clear the
forks would mean I need to remake my whole exhaust system, part of my cooling system and my intake.
This is an easy way around it, I'll be interested to see how the welded axles hold up

Great stuff. I was stirring the owner about driving slow at Wakefield and reminded him of where the accelerator pedal was 
But to be honest, I think with these motors they just seem to do it so effortlessly and quiet that it appears as if they are driving easy. Then I
look at the times and think I may have got it wrong.

Great Stuff. I have been watching the development of your products with much interest. Many VW racers swear by the ZF LSD, what LSD options are there
for this setup, and what additional costs are involved in the LSD addition. (Sorry if this is a hijack, start a new thread if you like or i can,
