Carbs
I'm planing on giving the kombi a bit more punch and would like to change the carbs. I'm staying twin and a choice of 3 types
Weber, kadron or Empi. Iknow the weberes are probably the pick but if i can't find second hand new might be out of my budget. What are the Empi like
these days and the 44 kadrons/solex???

Stay away from the Empi
My opinion is either Weber or Dellorto
Personally I like Dellorto as they run a larger idle jet and dont block as much
You can get this guy to jet then to what you want
here are some Dellorto 40's
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-PORSCHE-DELLORTO-DRLA-40-CARBURETORS-/290736653172...
you could get away with 36's - but for an extra $75 get the 40's
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-PORSCHE-DELLORTO-DRLA-36-CARBURETORS-/261064433312...
otherwise - for Italian IDF40's at $520 grab these
http://www.ebay.com/itm/WEBER-40-IDF-CARBURETORS-/261025907269?pt=Ricambi_e_A...

Try Recarb at Kawana Tarin. He's a walking encyclopedia on carbs, has webbers in stock, new and recoed. Prices are good too, I'm putting a single
38mm webber on the 2 litre, brand new complete kit $800.

1 screwdriver, 3 jets, 20minutes; or multiple tools, 6 jets and at least an hour to setup right. 1 to tune and service as opposed to twins, and you
know me mate, I like to be different. Good for low down torque,
but sacrifices a little at the topend, but it's a bus not a porsche.

If you've only got one to start with you don't know what you're missing! If it doesn't work Ill step back to twin 40 webers. Recarb has always
got parts in stock and last time I was there I think he had a set of reco'd 40 webers for $1000

From what I've been told, only problem with the delortos is trying to get parts. At least with webers they are pretty eay to come by.

Parts are easily available for both Weber and Dells from Alfa 1750 on ebay. I stock a big range of Weber jets as thats what I see most of. As for
Recarb, speak to some of my customers and thay can give you a referral, I've got quite a few that can share thier experiences , PM or phone me for details. Tarin, I'd go 40mm IDF's or Dells if you
plan on 2.0 litre, keep well away from HPMX IMO, yes you might get them going ok......

I had the old verision on my last panel and had a lot of idling dramas. Anyone else find this with these or have they turned things around like they
reckon?

Unless you have other work done on your engine the only real noticeable difference will be in your wallet with a larger fuel bill.I know too many
people that upgraded carbs only to go back to a set of well rebuilt Solexs. When tuned properly they run very well.

ran a rebuilt set of 40 webers on a stock but well looked after 2ltr and fuel usage was the same as stock and drivability was smoother, its how you
set them up is the key , dyno tuning helps alot , go with dual kadrons a complete new kit with electric chokes can be had for about 800
