1776 Type 1 engine builder Victoria

Hi Guys

The engine in my poor old bug is about to die.
I'd like to replace it with a 1776, nothing too wild, just a nice strong motor that I can run with heaters.
Does anyone have any recommendations on the best builder to use in Victoria?
I was thinking of getting a turn key from the states, but have heard too many horror stories and have since dismissed that idea.

Also,
I wanted to use a vintage speed exhaust on the engine, the one that you can use with heater boxes.
Does anyone have much experience with these units? They look pretty sweet and exit through the stock cutouts, which is why I wanted one.

Hoping that someone can help me,
Cheers Dave

Hi there.
Don't know about Melbourne rebuilders, but i drove up to CBB in Penrith from Melbourne last year to pick up a Reco 1600 TP.
They also deliver if you can't take the company ute for a short trip like i did.
Had a look around the workshop while i was there.Very impressive.
Engines been running great with no issues.
Thats my 2cents worth anyway..

Volkshome at Thomastown, VW Performance at Croydon and Volkscare/Volkspeed at Bayswater as far as I know all do good work. Talk to them all and see who you are most comfortable with and get some quotes. Stan Pobjoy at Coffs will ship Australia wide as far as I know and he has a great reputation as an engine builder. Probably want to build a 1916 though. Just be prepared for a long phone call but he is passionate about his work.As already suggested, Rod Penrose ships Aust wide as well
Cheers...........Wayne
