Empi shifter advice

Hello all

I have a noisy klunky stock shifter. No fun at all!
I like the look of the Empi t bar with the button for reverse.

I was hoping for an opinion on the Empi.
Are they good to use and will it improve my shift experience? Does the reverse button thing work ok?
cheers Jacko

Dont buy one or waste your money

buy Vintage Speed instead nothing to fall apart on them

You should also check out CSP and very shifters for quality. Another cheaper brand is bug pack who make a t-handle like the empi.

There is a shorter review somewhere on the WWW but I just can't find it right now.

I have the empi shifter with the round ball ($45 I think it was)........all you need to do is replace the 4 rivots that holds it together with bolts and they are fine. Ive been hard shifting mine for ages with no probs at all.

Vintage speed are the best, but a lot more $$.

Its best to also replace your shift bush in the tunnel, as the better shifter may only be masking your real problem !

I used to run an Empi ball handle shifter with trigger lockout on the race car, and no probs once had replaced the rivets as Craigy says. Presumably the T style lockout is pretty similar ?

Vintage Speed, Berg or CSP are all very nice bits of kit too tho if the budget will stretch that far...

I have the CSP and it is wonderful

I have also driven / used the Vintage Speed and I probably prefer it.

Looks wise - the Vintage Speed for early stuff and CSP for later model cars

Oh - do the gear coupling and shift bush first
Best bang for buck out there

I've got one of the Hurst style Empi knock off trigger shifters in mine.

No real complaints other than the cheap nasty plastic knob is the first thing that needs replacing.
