EJ22 cutting out ?
Have just finished install of EJ22 and am finding it cut's out on a left hand turn. Once it is straight, it seems to find feul and kick back to
life . We have checked wiring twice and earths ect, so it seems to be a fuel starvation issue. Engine is in a baja with a kombi tank (parcel shelf)
gravity feeding a surge tank on to a vl commodore efi pump. Using the donor liberty filter as it looked newish (looks can be deceiving ). The filter
is the only part not new..new but this only happens on a Left Hand Turn ! Any suggestions appreciated as only very limited EJ experience to date.

Hey mate, try adding a small lift pump before the surge tank.
That's my guess but saying that my split isn't running a surge tank and only cuts out if I let the fuel go too low.
Also if its easy just as a experiment try bypassing the surge tank and see if its still doing it, it may be a case of the pump emptying the tank
before it can refill.

Yes it think it is a issue in the surge.. Tail pipe very sooty all of a sudden (ah oh head gasket maybe) !
Thanks I will try those options.

Bob's on the money, gravity flow at times like cornering isn't always enough to keep an EFI pump fed.

do some research on efi conversions , u def need a lift pump as bob said , carter or holly's are redilly avail even try a cheap facet style pump

what size hose is feeding the fuel pump from the tank? And where is the fuel outlet on the tank? On a left hand turn the fuel will flow to the right
of the tank so if the outlet is on the left it will not get fuel. Does it do the same on right hand turns? how much fuel was in the tank?
I'm running an alloy tank with a deep collection point and baffles and I am gravity feeding thru a 1/2" hose and fittings to a Bosch pump and not
having any fuel issues.

That also creates another issue, the fuel returning picks up alot of heat from the fuel rails and if your system is all rubber hose it cant shed any
heat like metal lines under the car in the roaddraft would do so the pump keeps recirculating that hot fuel.
Fuel has a low boiling point which exaggerates the problem, having the lift pump helps circulate the fuel back into the main tank to cool it off
better.

Joel I'm going to try the fuel return to the main tank above instead of the surge tank and put in a larger feed line from main
tank to surge as lou0060 suggested. I'm trying not to use a small lift pump if I can help it . (one less thing to go wrong) If this fails, then I
will fit the lift pump. Will post outcome in the next day or so when I get time to change. ( I desperately need a hoist at home)

Fixed !! Return now go's to main tank and tapped a brass (8mm) fitting into the original outlet and bingo, no more cutting out on LH turn. This
larger feed line still just gavity feeds the 1 lt surge below it and it has fixed the problem seemingly.

Its back !! Problem does not happen when low in fuel, but put 20 ltrs in it and Lh bend cuts out again. Drained 20 ltrs out, and no
problem in the paddock. put fuel back in and straight away cut out on left hand turn. No problem with wiring as wont do it with bugger all fuel in it
even up lots of throttle. Talked to efi guy we know and he said "time to go home so your on your own" (had no idea). seems the weight of the 20 ltrs
of fuel in it (tank on parcel shelf) and it all goes to crap, only on left hand turn not rht. I am stumped!

The problem was obvious now I've sorted it ... The vapour line I set up high on the rhs of tank would suck fuel in (left hand bend) when near full
tank causing the engine to flood !! I dont even run the surge any more just a 1/2' feed straight to the pump and no problems. It was just the vapour
line all along..Do you even need the subaru vapour line in a already well vented tank ??? Feed back appreciated.

legally i am pretty sure you have to, guess you then need a liquid vapor separator before the vapor line first like most cars do.
