lowering my 1967 beetle
I would like to lower my 1967 beetle, I believe its a link pin front end. I read that people shorten the front end, why do they do this.
All i am chasing is for the car to sit a little lower then standard (not just off the ground) and for the tyres not to scrub on the inner guards.
I have brought some new Chrome EMPI rims 15" yet to buy tyres for. No idea what size tyres i should buy.
Input would be great....

There not the right shocks. through them away. The best way is 2.5" drop spindles.

Another case of overseas info stuffing up aussie buyers
They're for 68 and later Ball joint in aus.
You want link pin spindles which would be 65 and earlier according to that.

Do these need to be off a latter model? Or are they just saying best change them since you are working on them anyway???

That doesn't apply in your case.
Its for overseas where they got Balljoint front ends in 66 but kept the early tierod ends till 69.
They just make the spindles to take the late tierod ends so they only have to make one model of drop spindle instead of two.

Whats the pros & cons of an adjustable front beam over drop spindles?

Adjustable Beam
Pro: Adjustable
Con: Non-reversible
Con: Can affect the steering/ suspension geometry and detract from ride quality
Drop Spindles
Pro: Suspension and steering geometry unaffected
Pro: Completely reversible
Pro: If you don't have discs you can get spindles that have caliper mounts
Con: Some spindles are of questionable quality
Con: Non-adjustable
Con: (depending on how you look at it) widens track of vehicle by about 1inch
Thats all i've got at the minute; theres probs more on the beam that I haven't thought of

Well, i think i will go the drop spindles, can you help with the size tyres i would need to buy with these 2.5" spindles.
The rims i brought are 5 spoke EMPI 5.5w 15" just not real sure what size tyres i should run.
Last thing i want is them scrubbing out.
