Anyone have any problems with new brosol carbies?

looking at buying a new 31 pict carby for My beetle but notice most are chinese [maybe all?]

apart from the USA selling 31 PICT Brosol/solex made in Brasil

which looks good.. Brasil has to be better than china

as they never made Beetles in China.. lol

Anyone sell Brasillian made carbies in Australia?

Any problems with chinese Carbies??

It's a bit hit and miss, unfortunately.
Some go well straight out of the box, and some are just paperweights.
I have heard of carbies being sold as Solex Brosol and are clearly NOT!
If i needed to buy one, I would have a good look around and buy from the dearer end of what's on offer.

Hi Lee I think you would be better off giving the chinese units a miss and spending your money on what you have.

I'd stay away from the new ones. You'd be better off getting a decent second hand original and getting it professionally rebuilt.

Lee, I have one of the brosol carbs from brazil.
Actually I am very happy with it, using one for last 10 years,
only issue was the manufacturing hole/cover popped off once, since fixed, no issues whatsoever.

George from classic used to sell them I think, but they were more expensive than the Chinese ones.

Hi Rob
well Mine arrived on Friday afternoon
but with 38C+ degrees outside [in the shade]
its too hot to install at the moment..

and I have to get My beetle passed for rego on Monday..
so, I'll leave it alone till that is over..

The carby looks great.. made in brasil .. which is good..

The little round covers fall out of many carburetors..
I think it depends on who popped them in.. lol

this carby came complete with the dual port adaptor for this carby 31PICT or for 34PICT on single ports..
I guess it would do both jobs??

Paperwork says it should work when first fitted... but has instructions..
All the other places selling similar carbies had an EMPI number indicating they were chinese made.. lol

cheers

LEE

I had my original rebuilt at Carburetor Spares on Parramatta road Burwood.

I was very happy with what I paid - and yes it was probably more than what I can buy/import a new one for.

My engine is a stock 1600TP, from memory I had to get the adapter separately, and the main jet got changed to one slightly larger, but that was it.

Repaired many of Solex carbs too, not uncommon, but use of legal tender not recommended ;).

I've got a complete new motor in a 62 split with the 34 pict.
It has a flat spot and gags when taking off in 1st or any low rev situation.
It shits me to tears.
Is this common?
I've had it apart 6 times thinking I fixed it but no improvement.

^^ It's because of a mismatch to the distributer. Need to get it set up to work properly or ditch it for some IDA's...

Yeah, ditched the contact points distributor which came on the engine for an electronic from mick motors.
Thing is we have the exact same set up in our other bus and has been perfect for years so go figue.
My best bet is pull the carb and do a swap ans see what happens trial and error style but I'm lazy so it has'nt happend yet.

So Mat, what is a match for 34 pict brosol in the distributor department?
