Correct gearbox front mount? - oval beetle
My oval has this front mount arrangement mated to a 1500 gearbox (info from PO).
As far as I can tell it's a fabbed up plate bolted from the early mount to the later nose cone. I'd like to return the front mount to stock as the
current setup transmits a lot of vibration to the car and makes it kinda noisy. Could someone post some pics of the stock setup and/or tell me what I
need to do to return the mounting system to stock pls?

Here's what the original mount looks like
Oval front gearbox mount
Trouble is if you have this later 1500 box instead of the original split case box then you may need either this mount
65-72 Beetle front gbox mount
Or quite possibly you'll need an early nosecone on the 1500 box to mate to the original Oval mount

I believe in your situation it's gonna be the expensive route and hence why the PO used the plate method to bodge it.
Another cheaper option would be to cut a 65> chassis mounting plate, for where the rubber mount bolts too, from a scrap vehicle.
oh, third option is trying to source a split case box and put it back to original but then you'll lose the cruising speed of the 1500 box.
Afraid there is no easy option on this one

You may be able to buy the weld in mount platform, but
Most who do this converson use a splitty bus nose cone, hockey stick and mount and it makes for a bolt in job.

Split bus hockey stick and nose cone eh? I think I might know who to talk to re that. Mezz, you'd need a front mount with that setup anyway right?

if your front mount is stuffed it normally makes the engine kick up when changing gears,
Whats your vw doing when driving ??
and nope no front mount.
I've done about 18,000 Ks in my 180HP Subaru bug no probs. the Subaru is a fair bit heaver tooo.
I also have another bug with no clutch cable tube, no prob for 30,000 Ks Just a bit tricky fitting cable
Berg also makes those middle mounts .

It's not kicking up, it's just really noisy. You can feel the trans through your seat on the freeway.

Yep if you want a bolt in solution then the Splittie nosecone or the rancho aftermarket one. Think there is another slightly cheaper manufacturer of
this nosecone but you'll have to go looking thru the UK vendors to find it. I thought Heritage did it but maybe M7 or C&C.
That's of course if you can't find a second hand splittie somewhere here

pop the back seat out and take that small cover off and look and see if the front housing is not hitting body.
and have a look at rear engine mounts to see if there not gone soft and gearbox rubber on metal mount there either.
