In dire need of help
Hi Guys,
I'm a Complete VW noob, just thought id start with that.
So ive been given an ultimatum to get this project finished, or partially put back together. However, ive hid a bump in the road. I've got a kit to
partially rebuild my transmission, but I cant manage to get this bit off. As you can see from the picture, forceful methods of removal have been
attempted. The other side came off fine, but this side just dosent seem to budge.
Is this just a matter of brute force? Smack it until it comes off? or am I doing something wrong, very very wrong.

It's the wheel bearing that is keeping it on, it's tight over the axle. Really should be using a puller or press. There are many area's of VW
tranny repair that should be left to the experts. There are hidden pitfalls that are needed to beware of, even taking the axle tubes off as your
doing, the fulcrum plates in the diff side gears can fall out of position and force disassembly.

What comes in a kit to 'partially rebuild' a vw transmission?
I hope you are talking about gaskets and seals? What is wrong with the gearbox?
Sorry for all the questions, but depending on what you are trying to achieve, you may just be wasting your time as special tools and knowledge are
required if you go much further than you have! I would like to help you, even if it just means telling you to stop what you are doing, or get a
workshop manual or a big copper hammer.

Try taking the seal sleeve off first.
There should be an O ring under it on the shaft.
If that is wedged in between the axle and the bearing it will prevent the bearing being removed.
Once you have the seal sleeve and O ring out,
it should come off with a long legged puller.

Pray tell if you carnt get the axle off
WHAT are you intending to do to the gearbox ????
I hope its only cleaning the grease n dirt off

Thanks for the input everyone.
I should have been more clear in my first post. Ive got a gasket and seals kit for the transmission. I am unsure as to what condition the transmission
is in. I really just wanted to hot wash the gunk off it, maybe a quick coat of paint and then put it back together.
I have a very basic amount of tools at my disposal, but ive got a friend who has done the work on his transmission, the same as what I stated above,
but he never had a problem like the one im facing at the moment.
Might take it to a VW expert and get him to work his magic.

I would recommend taking the gearbox to a VW gearbox repairer.
You just can't go in without knowing what You are doing.
All workshop manuals say to take it to a VW workshop
as they have the special tools and know how to fix it..
