type3 to type1 rear brakes

hi all need some ideas
I have an 57 beetle on a converted pan to type3 IRS including brake set up. The issue I have is the look of the rear wheels to the guard. I run 195/60R15 on flat four 6" fuch at the rear which is in line with the guard. I want to run a wider and taller tyre, but this will hit the guard. I have looked at widen guards, but i thought if I revert to type 1 brakes I will get another 10mm or more clearance from the guard. The question is can type1 stub axles and type1 drums fit on a type3 irs setup?
I thought of running discs at the rear which may give me more guard clearance but I dont not trust what is out there, and drums i think are adequate.
Are there any other ways I can achieve this ?

Beetle brakes will fit straight on, and you won't need to change the stub axle.

Where are you located ?
