Is this Turbo going to be to BIG
Hi all,
went to a engine tuning place today out at Ingleburn to inquire about Haltech ECU and he thinks this turbo is to big for my EFI Turbo conversion. Can
any of you experienced VW turbo guru's let me know your thoughts please.
Can you tell me If the motor were a 2180, but also a 1916 how it would be. Unknown compression ratio at this stage as still in car and naturally
aspirated. Will do compression ration check when engine out.

so it's a T3/T4 hybrid? If so is it T3 exhaust and T4 compressor or the other way round. Normally T3 exhaust and T4 compressor.
Anyhow, the Ford Sierra Cosworth used a T3 and the RS500 version used a T4. Both had the 2l Pinto bottom end with a twin cam 16valve head. Std Cossie
still was a bit sluggish below 2.5-3k rpm but the RS500 needed dropping a few cogs to get it sucking above 4k rpm.
Hopefully that'll give you some idea. Altho the 8valve VW motor should have better torque and exhaust gas speed in the lower rev range so should
spool up quicker and be more responsive.

when are these cars ever finished.
psimitar, thanks for putting it that way. Also if I leave higher compression it will be ok down low and then great when boost comes on (but not to
much boost).

You have to be careful with the compression ratio tho. If the comp is high then boost must be low yet if comp is low then boost can be high.
For that size turbo 7.5-8 would be the go otherwise the blow off valve and actuator gate will be working their tits off.
Also if you make a twin scroll manifold then it'll make it spool up quicker and be more responsive

Someone put a thread up about dynamic compression ratio recently,
that'll be the thing to study lol, just to put a spanner in teh works

69' baja: kombi box, thing spindles, irs, disc front, type 3 rear drums, 2 inch lift kit, 31x10 rears.
New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!
