L bug bonnet hinge springs
Doe's anyone here, know where I can get either replacement hinges or struts to replace the springs on my 1975 L bug.

pain in the arse job
A "VW fail" that one.
easiest is to disconnect the springs and use a prop stick.
the problem is the spring bends and sends the circlip flying.
That then tries to send the hinge through the top apron bit in front of the windscreen
I have seen struts - but they really need some tabs welded into place
Best answer is to drill the stubs for the circlips out and replace with bolts
BIG job that requires holes to be cut and welded back up
Futue te ipsum!!!

Thanks Bizarre, that is the reason why I need new ones. Have repaired the damage and want to avoid it, might have to build a fancy prop stick.

Hi
To overcome this problem I drilled out the original circlip stud and fitted a bolt instead. This is fairly easy on passenger side, but on the drivers
side I needed to cut a larger hole with a hole saw.

Thanks for that Steve, if I can get a new set I will do that, have the dash out for rust repairs, so I should be fairly easy.

Definitely do the bolt modification. Half the problem is the groove on the post wears and stops allowing the circlip to hold correctly

My bonnet doesn't rock around at all, I tightened the nut & bolt to just allow the hinge to move, I tried doing gas struts but gave up
