Electric Fuel Pump
Hey Dubbers
I want to put an electric fuel pump on the bug mainly for aesthetic reasons. Was wondering what people are using. Was thinking of mounting to the
firewall behind the fan shroud and removing and blocking off the mech fuel pump. Any thoughts????

mount it under the fuel tank and use a rotory carter pump, 3PSI, Keep it out of the engine bay along with the fuel filter, also concider a fuel pump

you can get them cheaper than this price, what is wrong with your mechanical pump, if it is a standard engine i would not change it.

As VW060 says an electric pump needs to be under the tank, it won't last long at the back of the car, they are pushers not pullers and it needs a
filter between it and the tank.
Also as Bizarre says you need some sort of safety cut out like tach signal, oil pressure or alt charge, don;t just wire it in to the ignition.

A CB Performance in line pump with filter sold by Rod Penrose is what you need. I used a rivnut gun to mount mine to the pan for a good earth.The CB
Performance pump from memory was made by Carter anyway.It has good barbed ends for safe trouble free operation.Previously I used a low pressure
plastic bodied pump from CIP1 that had the minimalist type of barb on the end of the pump..it fell to bits and left 30 litres of fuel on my mates
workshop floor..lol

All good advice. Requires more thought me thinks. I agree, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the standard mech pump. I used one on my superbug
1916 with twin 40's with no probs whatsoever. It's really just about tidying up the engine bay on this Baja I've got in pieces at the moment. I
really like the idea of the fuel cut out as well. I had thought about it but wasn't sure how to go about it. Now I know. Thanks Lads, more food for
thought.

Return to tank question
Hi there,
I am ready to put my beetle body back onto chassis but just had a thought. This is different to my kombi set up with a return to tank fuel line. Is it
possible to not do a return to tank on the beetle if I run this scenario.... 1835cc with single 40 weber, electric fuel pump max is 4psi but if I used
that in conjunction with one of those dial type fuel regulators can I get away without running a return to tank line?

As far as I know a return line is only necessary for fuel injection?
I have run similar set ups with out return lines
I dont like the dial type regulators - too many fails

^^^^^ fast response, ok so the ufo shaped regulators are out. I just did a bit of reading up on them. Well then maybe I go with similar to my setup in
kombi with a Mallory and guage but no return line.

2 PSI is a bit low. Webers like more like 3.5

I like this as it is not linked to the tacho signal.
Where is the best place to mount one of these in a beetle? How sensitive are they? I don't want my fuel cutting out every time I hit a pothole or
speed bump.
