decklid standoff's/louvred decklids

Just wondering who on here is using decklid standoffs on their beetles??

I'm thinking of getting them on my 62 bug.
For starters, how much do they usually cost, and where do you get them from?
Are they easy to install/uninstall ?
Does anyone manufacture any type of retractable standoff?? ie. so it can work similar to a modern retractable rear wing, can open and close at anytime, without installing / uninstalling?
Any pittfalls of using them??

I kind of just want to use them during the summer months
I know its an aesthetic thing, people either love them or hate them. I've always liked the look of them, and thought if they are a decent product, maybe try them.

I'm also wondering who has louvred decklids on their 60's beetles? Where have you found those from, and for what prices?
Just looking at options for airflow in summer
Figured I would try the standoffs first, before going to the expense of finding a louvred or factory Karman vented W decklid.

Guess I'm just considering my options and seeing how other people have found these parts, and their experience of using them is.

Cheers Dubbers,
Zac

What motor are you running?

I use to run Hood Jax

Dunno if Glenn makes them anymore
They are good in the sense they are a piece of piss to install and uninstall

Trouble is they let a LOT of water in and prying hands
I ran Webers and Dells and the water was not good.

There is another answer where the bottom is propped out.

Some say this is better

There are the Empi ones - but they are fixed
No good in my opinion if the car lives out side

I like the look of the stand-offs, cheap and easy to install. Good for weekend driving, not good for daily driving in the rain. As Bizarre said, water and prying hands are a risk. Don't know of any retractable or adjustable stand-offs. I'm always thinking of ways to make them adjustable so i could close them up when i'm parking somewhere or if it's raining.

The lower decklid stand-offs which hold open the bottom of the decklid are also cheap, but be prepared to be stopped at every 2nd set of traffic lights or every servo by a stranger telling you that your engine lid is open. Got sick of explaining to people it's supposed to be that way.
