Two speed wipers for 58 bug?
Any advice on how to install two speed wipers into a 58 beetle (preferably keeping dash stock with ivory knobs).....for registration requirements on
my mate's bug due to engine upgrade (36hp to around 150hp).
Also, a demister is required but since no heater boxes will be used, what to do about this??
Cheers
Alan

Are two-speed wipers actually required? I was under the impression that single-speed wipers are ok as long as they exceed the minimum speed for the
fast setting on a two-speed set-up.
Is there any requirement that a demister actually has to blow hot air? Try the dash fans from a 70's kombi.:thumb If it really has to be hot,
then try a 12V hair drier, but it will your battery flat pretty quickly.

If I remember right, the 67 beetle in the US used the old style ivory knob but had two speeds, so you may be able to get one of these and use a simple
dropping resistor to get a new "low" speed to statisfy the rego people.
If you are upgrading to 12v, then there is an elegant little circuit on my web site
http://www.geocities.com/aussiebug1970/wiper1.html
for using the 6v wipers on 12v, and with a little experimenatation with the 330ohm "shorting" resistor (you'll see when you look at
the diagram), you can easily arrange for two speeds (a lower resistance will increase the wiper speed). |

you can also use a mitsubishi colt dash light dimmer. i installed one of these into my 58 and it was great (had a 6 volt wiper motor). you can vary
the speed of the wiper motor from hardly moving to the wipers being sent into orbit. I had mine mounted where the choke cable used to be.
