Every engineer will be different, they are allowed to set their own price.
When I got my car done it was $80 for the first mod code to cover the cost of engraving and the blue plate, and then $20 for each mod code after that.

$1500 for a conversion is a bloody joke.
I paid $150 for the plate with RWC from John Kean of Light Vehicle Certifications (0409627336) and he is on the expensive side.
I wouldn't recommend him to everyone though because he treats you like a wanka if you dont know exactly what you are on about.
I have never had any problems dealing with him but plenty of people have complained about his arrogance to me.
The good thing about john however is he is mobile and can inspect the car in your garage.

I think we need to clarify here that we are talking about Low Level blue plate inspections. For Eureka and others depending on build rules you may
have to get a Torsion and Beaming test which will cost you about $800 and several visits @ $$$ per visit.
Most people only get inspections for there $80 - $150 that is they look and say yes or know an take your $$$ in depth advice and corrections cost
more.

generally it is like getting a road worthy. If they don't like something they tell you what they don't like and what they want to see. Then
you fix it, bring it back and then they approve it. That shouldn't cost any more.
But as I said before, it all depends on the individual engineer (most of which aren't even engineers).
