What would you pay for a decent buggy?

I know of a buggy forsale, $3000 with 12 mths NSW rego...

Looked pretty tidy and well looked after, I think it had a Type 4 2 litre engine...
Not sure of the body kit type or what to look for?

Can anyone help?
What do I need to know before I consider such a purchase?
Can you register them on Club Rego and just use them for recreation?

mmm

If it is a complete buggy with a type 4 2L and rego for $3000 I would be buying it if it looked jalf way descent....

Yes you can put them on Club rego and use them for recreation !!! at least in QLD anyway.

Apparently gets used once or twice a year and then gets serviced for rego...it is complete, may have a fiberglass roof...

I saw it briefly...did look neat

Mate just check for the normal stuff but make sure you give the floor a good look over as they love to rust if not looked after. Check to see that all is legal with the rego in the way of approvals etc. Sounds like it could be a fair buy if it is reasonable condition.

It's a J&S.

No offense to you personally, but the generally consensous is that the J&S is the ugliest of all buggies. Not that there's anything wrong with that :thumb

I can feel a flaming coming on...

i was wanting to know waht the buggy is in byron? i know what mine is.....

and wes you can hold that opinion. i am not worried about what your thought is. you wont get a flaming. you are fortunate that in qld you guys can just rego something anytime you like. we do not have that luxury in nsw, so you take what you can get. i still get to buggy around and go to stockton (which i hear you are not, bummer). if you are happy to donate a manx body or supa body... i would be more than happy to accept it. then we would all be happy, huh.:D
happily awaiting your generosity in consideration of my position.:D:D:cool::D:D

Well actually you would be hard pressed getting a newly built SWB buggy approved in QLD. That's why everyone buys already approved buggies. So, Byronbus, if it has papers it's worth it. :thumb

I'm disappointed I can't make Stockton, I'm sitting around waiting to hear if I will be able to make it to Fraser :(

OK, got all the details...a bit different to what i 1st heard (always the way)

Its a Mantra on a '70 or '73 pan SWB
New brake lines and disks
New carby
Engine is 1600 bored out to 1840
No rust, floor clean as a wistle

He wants 4k with 12 months NSW rego

I might be able to get the pink slip and try and get it on club rego...but not sure how to do that in NSW...

What do you off road nuts think?

Got pics of my "lownose" in member rides and in buying and swapping.

Personally I like the J&S "lownose" also partial to a Manx.

Byronbus, make sure the chassis number on the rego papers match the one on the buggy. I would also check engine numbers as well. You then need to see what it is registered as, eg sedan,on the papers, this is VERY important.
The big problem is that people buy registered beetles, convert to buggies, and think this means its registered !!

thats a good point craig.

you have to look at the papers and check the tare weight. should be around 510kgs or so. where as a beetle is like 900 and something.

byronbus, keep it fully registered ,you never know what rules may change in the future ! Also on club rego you can only drive to club events.

Any vehicle that is registered should be purchased with a pink slip:thumb although that never happens:o

As for it being a mantra, never seen one

P.S I know of several buggies that get pink slips every year, but on the rego papers they are still beetles, please check carefully:jesus

have seen mantras , and contrary to baja wes i think they are further down the looks trail. but for 4k it is a good buy still. besides if it is a true rego'd buggy you can always change the body later.

as for the pic i posted, yellow wiht red flames, this is a proto-type of a new one being designed and getting ready for sale in the states.
