Silver L Bug

Has any seen this silver L bug running around the group 7 and state super sprint races. if you come up against it be very aware as it has some pretty hi tech stuff happening with the engine interials. There is a guy that wears glass associated with the car who is a professor at Sydney Uni (one of my lectures) who's been doing some research for VW Germany on their w10 engine and he has been experimenting on the silver L bug engine. The professor is a wizard with carbon fibre and the L bug has some carbon fibre engine internials, the new engine is running ceramic pistons carbon fibre pushrods, engine case, cam shaft and crank gears and engine bearing.
The engine specs are under 2 lt but it has some major horses working for it. How do I know all this I worked as a lab assistant on some of the developement.

If he's building carbon internals, why is he still running pushrods? Bring on camless, I say

Silver L Bug Continued

The mighty Silver L Bug has you all fooled you only see what they want you to see. Yes Jak Rudy is a good drive but that does not add up to 6 seconds on everyone else does it?
Craig you know what I say is all true, stop living denial we can not keep hiding the truth the vw public needs to know there are other forces at work here.
More information at hand the silver L bug also has carbon fibre conrods and have you check under that paint is the body all metal what about the floorpan. I know that they had to put a full roll cage in to add weight as the car was far to light getting totally airborne over the flip flop at Oran Park so don't beleave what they tell you and only half of what you see

haha, It's looking that way for myself atm.

I was just wondering tho. The guy builds from scratch, all his internals using composite materials and the like. Even a carbon case this guy tends to suggest. And he does'nt bother building DOHC heads or anything like that?!?!

Oh yes, I can see those rods shredding apart as we speak.
I know carbon cases are being built. But no race class allows them, so they can't be developed well enough, since they're stupidly expensive to build. Carbon fibre rods would'nt work. Carbon could, but there is really no point with titanium items being so good, tried and true.

Also, why is the L-Bug running on off the shelf Simmons wheels. Wurely he would know about unsprung weight?!?!?! There would be GT2 carbon ceramic brakes and V8 supercar 18" magnesium race wheels ($1200 a peice *swoon*) on the car if I had of built a fully custom, composite motor.

Oh, not to mention a DTM touring car styled carbon inner vehicle tub. To tie into the 20 point chromemolly cage (not a bolt in afair, like what he currently has). With all ties into the suspension, fully seamwelded, gussetted, lightened body, engine load points, seating, etc...
And whilst I'm at it, you'd run Remmele or CSP carbon body panels (doors, boot, bonnet, guards) along with carrera cup carbon wings (of the downforce variety). Not a fibreglass kit.

No, it's obviously a lot of fiberglass since it is running a Carrera body kit.

Better look out for that cutting edge `80's fiberglass body kit technology. :puke

Let me guys, I'm enjoying this. Had a shit week.
Because you are an idiot! Is his car stripped? Does he run slicks? Is he a kickarse driver? Does he have a close ratio 'box?

A race driver will be around 6 seconds a lap faster around a tighter track than a weekend warrior racer. Perfect example is Motor's performance car of the year tests. Cameron McConneville's (sp?) times around Winton in comparison to all the other guys. Most club racers loose a few seconds a lap when going around with an instructor (providing the car has the power and grip). Then the instructor is signifficantly faster than that, again.

So you say his motor has less than 90hp, hey?:repuke

*falls off chair laughing* Oh dude, that made me laugh so hard it hurt.
I think his secret lays beyond carbon fibre tho boys. I went down to autobarn and found the answer there myself. Stick on carbon fibre "print taken from top quality photo of actual carbon fibre"

The clutch is another story and the subject of another post, lets not get off topic.

Now I don't have anything against the silver L bug, and I am not trying to bag him out. I am just trying to point out that it hardly looks like cutting edge technology is giving him any advantage.

I just wanted to be clear that we are stirring retro and his weird beliefs, and not the silver L :D

retro, please feel free to prove us all wrong, but you will need proof to do that.

jocky weight

So you guys take the hook line sinker and the trace squirming like worms to justify why a pint size 1916 kicks your arse. Jak you told me one day that your car could be used to go shopping, expensive grocery getter. You guys were the ones stroken your strokers over the dyno day and how little hp SPJ 1916s have and I was just trying to give you some matterial to work with but I did not think you would take it to heart.
But have you ever thought that maybe that guy is a Professor and he is doing research at Sydney uni on the w10 engine you should ask him I think you will be surprised at what he does and what he knows.

LONG LIVE SPJ's 1916's ( which they do without rebiulds):
