Alternator running hot
Not a VW question, just general.
The alternator on my '87 toyota corolla shat itself at the weekend, so today I put in a spare one I had lying around.
Everything appears to be going well, as a good voltage is being supplied from the alternator now.
BUT
After driving to the servo to fill up, I got home to check that the pulley was tight enough, which it is, and the alternator is bloody roasting.
I don't remember the old one getting this hot. Is this a problem?
Thanks |

One of the diodes inside the alternator was shorting to the case. So it was working, but wasn't going to last much longer.
I got a brand new one supplied and installed for $289 by the RACV (in my driveway). |
