RESTORING BOLTS AND NUTS
What is the best way to clean/coat/dress up/restore boltsand nuts (also small metal brackets) when rebuilding your VW ????
Zinc coating ??
Can the same process be applied to high tensile bolts.

Craig, I Used New Stainless Nut's "n" Bolts, Readly Available At Repco And Supercheap, Quite Costly, But All Thread Sizes, Assorted
Lenths And Head Sizes, They Also Have A Panel With All Nuts And Bolts They Supply On So You Can Take Your Old Ones To Screw On To Get The Correct
Thread, Cost Me About $100 In Bolt's When I Restored My Bike But They Last For Life!!

I have a bucket in the corner of the garage and every time i find or strip something i chuck the items into there.
I have 2 buckets barrel plated over the past few years and now have a stock pile where i can find most botls n nuts plated like new ready to be
fitted.
I think it cost about $40.00 a bucket last time i had this done. Its a silver finish like Cadinum but a different type of metal i think it a
combination of stuff but it works well.

I'd stick closer to VolksFolks suggestion - chuck 'em out and fit new ones. Bright nickel is the best coating, but you'll want them
cleaned and burnished first - great if you want a showy ride. If you do replace them, make sure they have at least the same grade, you may need to
increase torque if you go for a much higher grade.

Just for completeness for the Melbourne folk,
As VolksFolks pointed out, SuperCheap have some stainless supplies in stock, also Coventry Fasteners in Moorabbin is a useful supply point, and will
sell in retail quantities.
