Late pan, early bug, subaru engine Whats my options!

Hi again all,

I probably should have posted this before and not sure if it belongs in this forum or another, i plan to put a subaru EJ20 into my 56 oval, i plan to put in a later pan and have put in a advertisment for a IRS pan and have had two replys i have 2 questions really

1. Most people say find a 68 semi auto pan that way you can get past the 72 regulations for emissions if i plan to put in the subaru engine i still have to conform with the standards of the engine year dont i? so would it really matter what year pan i have? (for vic registration)

2. I also have to replace the left wheel arch from the door to the nose on my oval, i`m thinking instead of buying just a pan if i buy a whole early 70`s bug would i be able to use this as a replacement panel? has anyone done this before? i know they look the same, but yeah just wondering!

Thanks again any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi

If your laws are the same for Vic as NSW then a pre 72 pan is bonus for wheels. Talk to an engineer 1st.

The post 68 bugs use a different bonnet so the 1/4 panel wont work with an oval.

+ the oval engine bay is super small, there is little chance of getting an ej20 in there, perhaps a ej22? or definatly an ea82t. The best bet would be to get a late bug (curved screen) and go from there.
