Automotive courses in Oz

Hi Guys, i am thinking about getting out of IT and getting out of this country for a while, so thought why not do both and study abroad! I was looking on the net and saw that i can study in Oz quite easy, but then couldn't find of anything that I really wanted to do. I wondered if anyone knew of colleges/Uni's that did decent automtive courses, I would love to get into motor racing and maybe do an aprenticeship.

Thanks,
Rob.

Automotive is not seen as a PHD subject here in OZ, so TAFE i.e. Technical and Further Education is your best bet. You can study automotive engineering all over Australia with TAFE. Just find the city that you like best, and go for it.

BTW I think most automotive courses are usually linked to an apprenticeship program here, but I may be wrong?!? It'd be good to do an apprenticeship with a VW shop now wouldn't it!

All the best!

4 years in Australia for a Londoner!

Uhm, I wonder if that would worry him too much?

Do you think John Howard would put him into a concentration
camp tho' for being a foreigner? Your not of Asian or Middle
Eastern heritage are you Mate? We've got a new Hitler over
here who doesn't take too kindly to cultural diversity. Not quite
as bad as Bush tho'. Just a snivelling, suck-up of a bully's right
hand man really. Oh, sorry, I forgot that Blair is one higher on
the right hand man list. You'll be used to it then!

Best of luck, and sorry to get so political!

Hi Rob,
Have you thought about combining motor racing and IT?

Even on our local V8 saloon racing, the telemetry and data logging that goes on in the background is impressive. Many of the guys (they're nearly all guys) in motor racing mechanical and design are either motor mechanics who always wanted to do it (old school, vast majority) or Mech. Eng. or Aeronautical Eng. graduates (new school, tiny minority). That still leaves space for someone specialising in radio data transfer, telemetry, real-time data analysis and interpretation.

Just a thought.

===========================================

jump what queue?

is the fella not just asking some questions about when he plans to be out here and seeing if he could study and learn?

do you know that he is not planing to move out here on a permanant basis? and would fill a hole that there is over here with tradesmen in the motor trade?

less and less people are doing it because they see there mates going into IT etc and earning 4 times as much in a fraction of the time, have alook at the point scoring the gov do to see if you are able to move to australia and you will see spray painters, mechs, panelbeaters etc are scoring in the highest bracket (with brain surgens and such)

if he was to study in the uk he would be done and out in 18 months full time with full qualifications, a lot quicker than if he was to do it over here, so i really cant see how he is jumping a queue

Guys I don’t think VWCOOL was suggesting that London Bugger was trying to jump the cue... or was he, but I did happen to notice the derogatory and stereotypical comment he made toward people of other decent coming to this country “like so may f888en towelheads do”. For future reference, before making such comments try to take into consideration other peoples motivations for coming to this great country of ours.
Thanks wacked1

Also I would have to move home to do a course here in England, so why not make the move worth while and go to Oz :D Also I love the Aussie V8 touring car stuff and Brutes, also the drag racing is better there too :)

Who knows thos you guys may not get rid of me and i'll devise a plan to stay!!

What's wrong with coming here? The tongue on cheek writing of the above posts is obvious.........isn't it!

The commentary is more an anti Government line than anythign racist!

Remember the only thing you can't do when arriving in Australia is whinge about the weather! This is reserved for those who have lived here for a while! :)~ (tongue planted firmly in cheek)
