Type 3 tech

I have just purchased a 1970 Type 3. My intention is to use the bits of it on my 64 type 3 – front discs, engine, IRS eventually and rear brakes plus whatever else fits or is useable. Initially I intend to change the engine over. What I want to know is can I use the 12 volt flywheel and clutch, starter etc (my cars is 12 volt converted – 6 volt starter) with the swing axle rear – or do I have to use all the existing clutch etc.?

I also saw a post ages ago about what bits are adaptable across type 3 s but can’t find it again – can anyone point the way?

I will also be wrecking the rest of the car (70 fasty) after X mas – it has great rear panels, pop out windows, as new red rear seats so let me know if you are interested in stuff.

Cheers

Yes you can use the 12V flywheel in the 6V swing axle gearbox.

You have to grind the bell housing away slightly on about 4 points untill the outside dia of the flywheel fits right into the 6V bellhousing. If you can get a lend of a 12V flywheel, it would make it easier to fit it up to the bell housing when grinding.

Also get and adaptor starter bushing for the starter motor end shaft. these are available from VVDS and probally many other shops as well, but i am only going to tell you that because i know for sure.

the brakes and irs rear should also fit OK.

Anyone in Melbourne got an early type three with the rear engine mounts welded in that i could have a loook at. I have the engine and IRS sitting on my shed floor looking for a new home in the notch
