this is how i found it after reading an ad in the tassie trading post for an oval window bug.
oval was sold, but the guy mentioned a ragtop that was in bits but rust free.

sounded good. so this is what a found.
a vw nut with a yard full of cars. new, old, half cuts, water cooled, projects.

the body was good, with only very minor rust in the usual spots.
i had to go back to melbourne, so my girlfriend (who was working in tassie at the time) had it trussed up like the provebial and shipped it over on the boat

once i got it home and looked closely, i found a few more rust spots.
was glad tho, cos the ragtop was a1 and other than a hit in the front, was straight.

missing guards, and other bits though. thats ok cos its gonna get the custom resto treatment.

other than these bits, all was generally well.

We'll all be waiting to watch the progress :thumb

What colour are you doing?

bought a 63 which i wrecked
baremetalled the body and the pan (lost the pics of the body)

So the DOVW for you too Kim?

Where's Delux Custom Restos?

Do you have all the parts you need for the resto, or are you still looking?

....always a lot of questions :)

the next pics are unfortunately some time later. (computer crashed so i lost all the pics of the bare metal body and the donor car)

18 months passed. finished uni, procrastinated etc.
by now the pan was painted.
body was baremetalled, and i had sent it off so my chosen repairer.

in the garage, after primer was applied, and on the rotisserie, this is what it looked like.

you can seen how good the body really was, with some extra repairs discovered, but nothing major.

you can see that its a good starting point

if you are gonna do a resto and want it done properly, this is the only way to do it - on a rotiserrie

you can get to all the areas and repairs are easier to do well

... not that i did them myself!

That rotisserie looks really handy, i`m a bit jealous of the ragtop ;)
