Part of breather pipe cracked?? Help!
Hi, i've got a type 3 notchback (1972) and theres a crack in part of the fuel tank breather pipe.
On my car (not sure if this is original) the pipe is in two pieces, one that comes from the tank up to the inside of the fender, then it connects to
another piece that goes through the fender to the filler.
The part that goes through the fender is cracked, or in some way leaking, and its making the car quite fumy.. i can tell by the petrol smelling mud
thats coming down in the wheel arch from where the filler is.
What i need to know is, how do i remove this peice, and where can i find a new one? (I'm hoping theres a type 3 expert out there reading this!)

This hose is almost always cracked or broken in some way. FYI it is not a breather it is an overflow pipe.
This is bit you need
http://www2.cip1.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=overflow As
you can see it has a built in flange/grommety type of this which fixes it to the inner fender. To remove it you may have to pull the trim off the
side of the front boot
If you want an original style part try Vintage veedub or Classic VW in Sydney.
I just used a piece of suitably sized fuel hose from my FLAPS.

If it doesn't look like the part shown it's always possible that somebody has already replaced it with something else. From your description of it
going through the fender, that's the only part that matches.
The grommet bit can be difficult to pull out of the fender, especially if it has gone hard (like most of them do).
