Bash Plate
though this is not for a baja, iam am needing to design a bash plate for my L bug. I am currently upgrading my super to PRC specs with the aim of
running the QRC in late 06 or early 07. As part of this I need to build a front and rear bash plate. I do run an extended sump, so it needs to clear
this.
Whats the best way to put a rear bash plate in? I want to keep my rear beaver panel.
How do you do a front mount near the torsion tubes?
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

I'd try to run the bash plate all the way from the back of the engine to the front of the tranny. Not sure how you would do it in your car but it's
easy in a buggy or baja because you can mount it to the engine cage.

how do you mount the front of the engine cage.
My idea was to mount to the torsion tubes, then run 2 bars back. have to bars dropping down from the rer bumper brackets with a cross bar.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

an engine cage usually has the 2 bars heading back from the torsion bar these are clamped around the bar and then these bend up around the engine and
attach to the firewall or the shock towers. so i can just bolt some sheet alloy or whatever inbetween these 2 bars.
u could use the same principal and use ur idea of attaching to the bumper mounts. as long as u can get low enough to clear ur sump and not lose too

What type of clamps do you use for the torsion tubes? as i currently run a rear swaybar, they have to fit inside the sway bar. so up to about 5 mm
max.
Yeah i will loose ground clearance, but it will be raised up and inch or 2 for ougher events, and the whole idea of the bash plate is, if the ruts
become to big the car just slids along on the bash plate.

Have a look at http://www.rallybugs.com - they have a bunch of rally specific
information on there, and lots of cool photos.
Have a look at the FIA homologation papers and you will see what the factory thought was required - its actually very little, they practically only
cover thepushrod tubes and not alot else - although the factory rally cars ran dry sumped so no deep sump to protect......
You might be able to find a couple of photos on there of what other people have done.
All the best, and when you start competing in the QRC - get lots of photos taken !!!!!

Yeah i was thinking of using a clamp system similar to what is shown above, but i have to get it to fit around a rear sway bar. The deep sump has
already taken a hammering just in khanacross and autocross, so it really needs a bash plate.
Well hopefully the QRC may be in 2007, unless i end up overseas for work..... so just got to see how thinsg pan out.
