Removing The Rear View Mirror

Does anybody know of the easiest way to remove the plastic rear view mirror from a late type 3 (72)?

I'm a 'woops it came apart in my hands' person and don't want to attack it without asking.

Cheers

I pulled one ot of a type 3 and the one I got was the same as a beetle or Bus one. Grabbed the shaft just above the mirror itself and gave it a good yank. They are designed to pop out if pushed forwards. The only prob with yanking it forwards is that the windscreen is in the way. It is a bloody strong clip.
Twisting it is a little precarious as the headliner can be a bit stuck to it and grip and wrinkle as it is twisted.
