golf questions


we are considering the aquisition of a 90 model golf cabrio with relativly low k's ,are ther any problem areas or specific things to look for when inspecting the vehicle ? i would guess the cv's would be first on the list but what other surprises are there ..i have done beetles and kombies both body and mechanical so it wont present any problems just need to know if there are problem areas
What is the performance like ? slug or ???:beer:beer:beer

this is a mark 2 car built on the mark 1 platform, so basically a very good car. But from experience steer clear of it if its an auto, motors are brilliant although can be sluggish.
get a roadworthy done and perhaps have the car checked by someone you can trust.

As stated the motors are good and plenty of cheap replacements available in the mechanical area. Depending on the type of motor mk 2 can be a slug. Not easy getting body bits for a mk 2 cab, but body warrenties are that good rust isnt a drama normally. C.V joints are a bit weak on the mk 3 CL 1.8 but not normally a worry on anything else and arent expensive to buy or replace anyway.
Have fun in a cool cab.

which injection system does it use k-jet or l jet?

I think the 90 onwards models used L Jet or Digifant. K-Jet was earlier, and is easily identified by the braided steel fuel lines in the engine bay. I think K-Jet was too bad with emissions for the Australian market by 1990. Congrats. My ex gf had an 86 Cab, and it was great. the later model ones were much the same, but as others have mentioned, had some new bits from the Mk2. These were mainly trim items. The mid 80's cabbies didnt change much to the early 90's. Main visual difference was the bodykit.

All Mk1 Cabrios up to 1993 use basic kjet, same as Mk1 GTI. they are great fun to drive in the manual but are a little bit heavier than a hardtop due to the roof hydraulics and chassis strengthening.

They are a Mk1 (A1) Chassis car with a Mk2 engine and gearbox. VW never made a Mk2 Cabrio.

After 1993 The Cabrios were Mk3 Golfs and have the same digifant injection as all Mk3 2Ls. These are a solid car, buy with confidence.
