Just got my new VWMA in the mail and am excited about how big the event will be.
Who is NOT going?...And what will it take for you to come?
Not neccesarily to race, but just to be a part of the whole event, whether it be a spectator, official, show or race.

It would take a weekend leave pass + about $1000 all told (flights and accomodation + $$$ for beer and skittles).

I'd honestly love to come though.....

So you'd have a 3/8 mile strip? hehehe

1/4 would be cool I must admit, but I'm really looking forward to going and getting involved!

I have found that 1/8 mile drags are just as fun as 1/4.
Infact, most times at the 1/8 mile events, I end up running my personal best because you get a lot more runs.
Most cars will be flat out in 3rd gear.
Rod Penrose and Mike Kristen will be doing about 200km/h in less than 6 seconds!

I've decided, with the help of a few friends, to give this drag racing a go as well.

Pictured is a 1957 Beetle that I have just bought, pulled from a barn where it had been sitting for 29 years. No accidents, a few battle scars, all complete.

This is going to be my Drag Rat for Warwick. Don't worry - I'm not planning on doing any cuttting, just bolt on stuff. 2 litre Type1 motor, drag box, lowered, set of rims, fresh rubber, get the brakes right, fix any suspension woes, and hopefully she'll go!

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress through the forum. For the Warwick event your car does not need to be registered, only track worthy - ANDRA will inspect during scrutineering.

G'day Guys

I was hoping to give the KG a run - need to sort a helmet and stinger for the event + Need to convince Alan (dasdubber) to run his bug....or at least pit crew for me.

Anything specific you need to prepare for scrutineering - do you need to wear anything specific heard a rumour full length clothes non-flammable (which is probably a good idea anyway)

Hi Brad,
Any real helmet, as long as it has a AS1698 standard or better (no push bike or German Army!!!),
and long sleeves and pants is good...and closed shoes too, no thongs or sandles.
That helmet standard is on just about every car or bike helmet ever produced,
so just have a look either at the back of the helmet or inside the lining, and it will be on a sticker in there.
I would be so pleased if you both have a run. What ever I can do to encourage more people to be there and have a go
...you will have a ball and it is all legal!!
If anyone has any questions about the helmet, or other things, feel free to ask
as I have the rule book here and if I don't know the answers, I will get them.

So Dumone(hate calling you that, what is your name?) would you come if it was a 1/4 mile?
Perhaps you could come just in preparation for when they lengthen the track.
You are probably closer to the track than me!
Come and have some fun, and just be a spectator if you are AFRAID!?

I'm not going...........................9 hour drive from Sydney is a tad to far.

I think the concept is great, but the cost for me to travel to the event in time and $$$ certainly out weighs the benefit of attending.

Hey guys,
I am soooo jealous, wish I could make the event.I have had more fun over the years (21)that I have been drag racing by meeting and renewing friendships from the drag races I've attended.Heck,if you can't race or get there on your own, post it and see if anyone else is heading that way that has room, even if you don't race you can actually meet each other and hang out.Nothing better than campin out the night before and havin a few beers and socializing.I hope you ALL have fun

What will it take!!! The noise of sweat sounding vw motors reving hard!!! That is all it takes for me to be there! Dave you know ,this can or will be a long piece of string for some people . You and I have done so many interstate trips and promised many things by people but we still drag race for fun. I think this warwick meeting will be a new level of FUN and excitement for Australian vw drag racing and car shows ! If people want to race at any drag race meeting they have no excuse with so many events ( steet meets ,test & tunes, import meets ,bracket meets ) and more. Sorry for being square but Just come and Have Fun by just being there !!!!

If I can get some time off work we'll be flying up to spectate. The trip up from Adelaide with the bug on a trailer is just a bit too daunting! We did it once to Sydney for the Nats and that was bad enough. Can't wait to catch up!! Dave we've spoken over the phone a number of times I look forward to meeting you in person. Is Craig going?

Pre-entry closes 1st September. If all competitors could make this deadline it would help me organise the race day so much better.

Entry forms can be found at http://www.vwma.net.au  and click on the Warwick banner.

Please note, if you are not staying at the track, but are racing both days, tick the $80 box.

Cheers
Craig

Yes, and there is a trophy for fastest Kombi (all Volkswagen) and earliest Beetle. This event combines both the full-on serious drag meet with the fun and friendly runs, something other Australian drag meets no longer cater for. Even if it takes you 5 minutes to do the 1/8th, there is a class for you to run in. It's also dial your own in the open aircooled and watercooled classes, meaning you can always have that slight advantage over something quicker.

There is a large mess marque set-up at the track, with catering. $25 per head gets you dinner and breakfast(if you are staying at the track).

Also a large Plasma TV for entertainment and music. Possibly a bonfire pending fire restrictions.

Facilities at Warwick are basic, but better than most drag tracks. There are showers on a timer, so if you are not in a hurry, there is plenty of hot water. Warwick CBD is only five minutes down the road, but accommodation is filling fast. There are two other non-motorsport events in town that weekend.
